George H. Bush Presidential Library & Museum, College Station, Texas, 1/4/2014

This morning 1/4/14 my daughter Jamie and I drove from Dallas, Texas to College Station, Texas to tour the George H. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. which is located at 1000 George Bush Drive, College Station, Texas 77485. This facility is located on the Texas A. & M. University campus. Before we went to the Presidential Library and Museum Sara, Jamie's daughter who is a student at Texas A & M in a masters degree program led us on a tour of the campus and that is covered in a separate posting.

The George H. Bush Presidential Library And Museum was dedicated November 6, 1997. In the spring of 2002 the museum dedicated the Barbara Bush Botanical Garden a four acre area of antique roses located in the rear of the museum. Plans are to overtime expand these garden to over 100 acres with planting of flowers that are native to the area. Of course it being January when we were there nothing was in bloom but in the spring and summer it should be beautiful. On April 23, 1997, the permanent exhibit was closed for a complete renovation and reopened on November 1o, 2007.

The museum is located on 90 acres on the west campus of Texas A. & M. University. The mission is to preserve for research official document, personal papers and artifacts of President Bush. The aim is to increase historical understanding of our national history through the life and times of George Bush. There are stored here more than 44 million pages of personal papers and official documents under the protection of the Presidential Records Act. There are also records relating to the time he served as a Congressman, Ambassador to the United Nations, Chief of the U. S. Liaison Office in China, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. There is an extensive collection of audio-visual and photographic records, There are approximately 2 million photographs and thousands of hours of audio and video tape. All this material is stored in just under 17,000 square feet of permanent space and an additional 3,000 square feet of temporary space.

The museum has a unique classroom that no other Presidential Library Network has. This classroom can be used as a traditional classroom or a computer lab. The educational mission of the Bush Presidential Library and Museum to enrich and inform learning of all ages about American history, the role of the presidency in general with specific focus on the administration of George Bush.

The Day The Wall Came Down

Well this just about finishes our tour of the George H. Bush Presidential Library And Museum and I really enjoyed it. I was a little surprised that there was so little mention of the children except for Robin and Dorothy. In fact, there were a couple of children there that I don't ever recall hearing anything about.  I have had people ask me about my personnel feeling and so much historical material in my blogs. When I started writing my blog my aim was to document my travel through word and photograph relying heavily on photographs to tell the story. Well really there was another reason my four daughters pushed me pretty hard to start writing the blog when I travel after Jan died. I think they wanted it so they could keep track of me. What do you think? That's OK I love it. But photographs cannot tell the impact of what I am feeling when I see the marvelous and beautiful things I see. Then there is the matter of history. History is vital to where I am and what I am seeing. History tells me what was going on. It tell me about the area. At my tender age of 82 I lived through a lot of the times I am blogging about so there is that personal feeling  of how it impacted me, my parents and my family. I think it is vital to know our history. It really distresses me to talk to people who have lived in an area all of their lives and they don't really know anything about the area and have never seem or visited historical and National parks, battlefield, State and National monuments. I  think I heard someone say you can't know where you are going if you don't know where you have been.

The next stop is San Antonio for a very short visit with an old Air Force friend and his wife. As Always remember that God loves you and so do I.

Comment: " Where two or three  are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. " Matthew 18: 20. NIV.

Isn't that a comforting thought that wherever or when ever 2 or 3 of us are together in his name he is there with us. Of course that is the key isn't it when we are gathered together in his name not just together in a social gathering. Really this is the start of the early visible church where 2 or 3 would gather together to worship God.
