After completing our tour of William Howard Taft's boyhood home Pat and I headed for Point Pleasant, Ohio to see President Ulysses Simpson Grant birthplace which is an Ohio Historical Society site. Before we got there we were both hungry and hot so we stopped at a McDonald's for something to eat. Refreshed we continued our drive and arrived there to find that the house was not open for viewing. The house was exceptionally small so there would not have been much to see but the following is what we saw and learned while there. For much more on President Grant that has previously been reported in my Blog see President Ulysses S. Grant State Historical Site, Galena, Illinois, May 19, 2013 as well as President Ulysses S. Grant Farm House, St. Louis, Missouri, dated September 13, 2013. Grant was the eighteenth President Of The United States.

Next Patricia and I drove from Point Pleasant, Ohio to Georgetown, Ohio to visit the Grant Schoolhouse and his Boyhood home. When we arrived in Georgetown we were just slowly driving down the street looking for a sign telling us we had found Grant schoolhouse. Well we find a house that said this was Grant's school house so we parked along the curb and walked up the steps and open the door and walked in. Patricia saw a woman talking on the phone and she headed toward Patricia with a startled look on her face and Patricia asked are you open now? " I think that is what she asked. At any rate it was not Grant's schoolhouse but a private residence despite what the sign said on the side of the building and we excused ourselves and beat a hasty retreat. Two lessons learned don't leave your front door unlocked and don't believe all the signs you see.

This Is A Pamphlet That Sets Forth The Rules For The Teachers And Lashes For Kids. In My Travels I Have Visited Many Of Our President's School Houses And This Is The First Time I Have Found Anything Like This. The Rules For Teachers And The Punishment For Students. Look These Over Carefully.Rules For Male Teachers -- 1872
Rules For Female Teachers -- 1915
Lashes ( Punishment For Students ) As They Applied To Both Boys And Girls. I find It Interesting That The Second Most Severe Punishment Was For Boys Misbehaving To Girls. Notice Boys And Girls Were Not Allowed To Play Together Or Go To The Others Play Area ( Separate Play Area ).
President Ulysses S. Grant died July 23, 1885 in Saratoga Springs, New York and his wife Julia Dent Grant are buried in Riverside Park in the Morningside neighborhood area of Upper Manhattan, New York City, New York.
This brings to conclusion a long day of touring Presidential sites and me enjoying spending a special day with my daughter Patricia. I really appreciate her going with me on this excursion. On the way out of Georgetown we stopped at a small farmers market and bought some goodies. I got a very large muffin and just down the street was a soft serve ice cream place and Lady Blue would not just drive by. I had a vanilla cone to go with my muffin. A perfect way to close out the day.
As always remember what I say God loves you and so do I.
Grandpa Bill
