Calvin Coolidge Continued 2

Good Morning. I spent the night in Concord, New Hampshire. I will take a short break from the blog on Calvin Coolidge to tell you where I am. After breakfast this morning I left about 6:00 A. M. and drove roughly 2 hours to the Mountain Meadows Lodge, 285 Thunder Brook Road, Killington, Vermont. As you will recall I brought my friend Jim up here to Vermont to join up with two of his friends  and spend a few days on the Appalachian Trail. Jim originally started with them at the Trail starting point in Georgia and spent a couple of weeks on the trail before he had to go back to work. His friends have continued on and plan to finish the entire trail ending up in Maine. You will recall the trouble we had trying to connect with them a few days ago. Well he contacted me yesterday and wants to meet me at the location I am at. They are due in here about 8:00 P. M. Thursday 7/18/2013. I have a room for myself tonight and for Jim and I tomorrow night and we will drive down to Massachusetts on Friday to visit the Calvin Coolidge Library and Museum and then on home. Jim's friends ( Goose and All The Way ) will shower and do laundry here and head on up the trail Friday. I think plan to sleep in their tents Thursday night. They, like many of the hikers have supplies shipped to this location for pick up. The AT comes right by the lodge. I will show you some pictures of the lodge and surroundings and then get back to Calvin Coolidge.

I am hungry and the innkeeper here tells me there is a sandwich shop about a mile away that make the best and I hear it calling me. So I will be back shortly don't go away. OK I am back and the sandwich lived up to the billing. Delicious. The following picture is where I ate lunch and the view I had and there was a very good breeze. Wish you were here.

To continue with Calvin Coolidge next to the Wilder Horse Barn is the Wilder Barn. It was once part of the Moor-Wilder Farm and was built around 1875 in the style of a " bank Barn ". I use the barn had hay stored overhead, dairy herd on the main floor and other livestock and manure in the basement. The beams inside the barn are hand hew and held together with pegs. The exterior is unpainted vertical pine boards with narrow battens. There is a vast assort of old farm equipment and the following are photographs of some of the equipment.

  1. Hi Dad
President Collidge's visit seems like a home run! Very interesting! It's all holding my attention nicely. I think I might like to check it out someday. The Inn you are staying at also looks nice just too bad there is no air conditioning. You picked or should I say Jim picked an awfully hot week to be outdoors. Glad you are enjoying your trip.
    Love you
    Joyce
