Travel Update, Covers Three Different Sites, Lancaster, PA. 7/10/2014

Good evening from Lancaster, Pennsylvania where Lisa and I are checked into a Red Roof Inn. I apologize for no communication last night as we had no wifi or Internet connection and the motel was not interested in helping fix the problem which was with the server. This was in a very expensive Country Inn & Suites. So we are in a different motel tonight.

Yesterday we left Lancaster and drove to the Gettysburg National Military Park and did the driving tour. I have been there before but it was the first time for Joyce and Lisa. The Internet connection here tonight is very slow so I will wait until later to post a few photographs. Following out tour we drove back to Lancaster where last night we ate at the Hersey Inn Farm which is a outstanding dinning area associated with the Sight and Sound Theater.

Following our tour of Gettysburg National Military Park we drove back to Lancaster to spend the night. This is where I mentioned to begin with that we had no Internet connection.

After breakfast today we drove out to Wheatland, Pennsylvania to tour the James Buchanan Presidential Library and Museum. He was the 15th president of the United State. It is an outstanding facility considering its age.and the grounds are beautiful beyond description. There are a vast variety of trees and plantings. Many of the trees are at least 5 feet in diameter and must be close to 200 feet tall. The tours through the house is  guided  which was excellent. I will have some beautiful photographs to share with you later.

Our Guide Dressed In Period Style
Following the tour in Wheatland we drove back to the Sight and Sound Theater and saw the musical production of Moses which was wonderful. The way they depicted baby Moses floating along in the basket and the way the sea was parted was very clever. On the stage they had a grayish shaded plastic or cloth and the air blew under it causing it to raise up and as Moses mother and sister walked it it it appeared they were walking in about 3 feet of water and they were  pushing the basket with baby Moses in it. The basket appeared to float. Actually it was suspended by wires from above but you could not see them. As the scene progressed  Moses sister was pushing the basket along in the water to the edge of the stage and down to the main isle running down the center of the theater. This isle was covered with the same sort of grayish material and the basket seem to float down the isle and out the back of the theater. Again it was being moved along by wires from above. All the time you are watching this activity of the basket moving slowly down the isle on stage the scene has been changed to so the palace ladies by the river and now the basket seem to float up to where they are standing and baby Moses is discovered in the basket. This was very impressive.

Later in the production when God parted the waters of the sea for the children of Israel to pass over on dry land they used the same grayish colored material to represent the sea. This theater has a massive stage in front and  stages on either side so when the waters parted it made you feel that you were right in the midst of it as the material billowed up 20 or 30 feet. They portrayed a lot of wind, thunder and lightning. In fact they had fans somewhere blowing the air out over the audience.  Then of course the waters closed back and destroyed the Egyptian soldiers. Again very impressive. I was really expecting to feel water spraying on me. Prior to the show I was wondering how they would be able to portray that and they did it in a marvelous manner. Some people questioned the way this was portrayed but you have to realize this is a musical production and not a dramatic production

Statue Of Character For Moses. They Always Have A major Statue In This Position That Is A Key Feature Of What Ever Show They Are Producing. Of Course Many People Want Their Picture Taken In Front Of this So There Is Always A Large Crowd Milling Around It.

Following the Moses production we went to the Good & Plenty Restaurant where we met Charlie, ( Joyce's husband ) who drove down from Long Island to pick her up and take her back home. This is one of the best places to eat in the world. You eat family style and are seated at a table with usually 12 other people that you have never seen before. Just like at home all the food is served in large dishes and you pass them around to everyone to take out what they want and you never run out of food. The main meat dishes were fried chicken and turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and numerous side dishes. Dessert I cant describe it was so delicious. It is impossible to go away from here hungry regardless of how picky a eater you happen to be.

Tomorrow Lisa and I will head back home. Several of our stops did not take as long as we thought they would so we are ahead of the original schedule. We both are tired and decided to head on back home. We are experiencing another thunder storm with heavy rain and wind. Good that we are inside now.

It has been a marvelous time having Joyce and Lisa with me to share the wonders of God's creation. I appreciate them coming along with me.  In the meantime, remember that God loves you and so do I.
