I left James Louis's home at 5:00 A. M. this morning and drove to St. Louis, MO. Looked at the President Ulysses S. Grant Farm Home and other displays there.

Ulysses S. Grant And The Farm Called " White Haven "

Here I have to tell you about some  street marking and advertising gimmicks which Grandpa Bill fell for. As I turned off the main road to to get to Grant's Farm I was following signs telling me which way to go to get there and they all said " Grants Farm ". Fine that's OK and soon I was at a gate where you pay to get in but I was surprised at the cost and the number of people in the parking lot and then I realized that this was not the " Grant's Farm " that I wanted but a very large area called " Grant's Farm " a exotic wildlife park and home of the famous Clydesdale Horses and stables. It seems that the August A. Busch family acquired much of the original " White Haven " property as a private estate and opened it as the wildlife park years ago. The Grant Farm I wanted was just before I came through the ticket gates. Since I had already paid my money I got on a trolley that tours the property and saw the animals or at least some of them. It was obvious that one of the things they wanted you to do was get a free sample of their beer and this was made possible several places. I was not that impressed with the animals and although I took many photographs I will not bore you with them at least not at this time. I am afraid I was a little rude to a young man as I left the park. It was his job to thank visitors for coming, to welcome them back and to find out if they had an enjoyable visit. Well obviously I had not enjoyed my visit so I told him " No " and that I considered it a waste of my money and proceeded to leave. He seemed totally startled at what I had said and perhaps it was the only time he had heard such a response. So I found Lady Blue left the park and about 50 yards away on the left with no markings on the road was Grant's Farm that I wanted to visit.

The Grant home is situation in a beautiful area that would make a wonderful place for a person to live today. The second floor was not open for viewing at this time. I enjoyed this historical site and the rangers in the visitor center were helpful and knowledgeable. I finished a little earlier than I expected so I headed east for home. The weather was good and the traffic light so I was making good time and able to stay at the speed limit.I had planned to spend the night perhaps about half way home but I got into a situation to where it was to early to stop for the night and not far enough away from home to stop so I just kept going since I was feeling good. I arrived at home at 8: 20 P. M. It was a marvelous trip but I am glad to get home. Need to unload the car and go to bed. I appreciate all the hospitality everyone showed to me with food, a place to stay and transportation around. I suspect I will start tomorrow trying to catch up on my blog postings. I have a lot to do. I thank God For His protection of me as I traveled roughly 7,000 miles. So remember what I always say God loves you and so do I.
